ANDY REIFF

I am a New York-based director and costume designer with a passion for telling stories that investigate the divide between the constructed persona and authentic self. I come from a multidisciplinary creative background that includes styling and interior decorating, and informs all of my theatrical work with a sense of visual clarity and style. My acting background and directing training enable me to guide actors away from performativity, helping them find ease and simplicity in their work.

My work focuses on directing and designing from a perspective of authentically communicating character through clothes and environment, as well as inviting realistic and spontaneous choicemaking by the actors. I have a passion for telling the stories of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, through the development of new work and by viewing existing plays and musicals through the lens of transgender experience.
